Kevin Hunt: Set in Stone

Kevin Hunt: Set in Stone, a publication that builds upon the artist's first solo exhibition at KARST, Plymouth, in 2022, curated by Matt Retallick.

Growing up on a council estate at the edge of Liverpool, British artist Kevin Hunt (b. 1983) draws from personal experiences and memories navigating lower-class architecture primarily designed by and for heterosexual, cisgendered individuals. Often incorporating the materials, forms and language that surrounded him during his formative teenage years, he makes sculpture from a queer and working class perspective.

Set in Stone presents a visual essay by the artist, bringing together 56 previously unpublished Images, colliding the architecture of where he is from with that of post-war Plymouth. Two newly commissioned texts by Matt Retallick and Kim McAleese unick these images further, expanding on the artist’s work, and what it means to grow up gay and working class within the built environment.

Produced with generous support from KARST and the Henry Moore Foundation.

The publication is designed by William Luz, and it is available to purchase here.
